Digitaal-Analoog converters details

DX-71 mkII en DX-51 mkIII

24 bit /96 kHz DA-converter uitelg over gebruikte 24-bit technologie

DX51-mkIII/DX71-mkII both have a full 24-Bit support with up to 100kHz of
sampling. Resolution as well as sampling frequency are automatically detected.
24 Bit never means the real DAC resolution because it is simply impossible
to convert an analogue signal into 24 Bit and from 24Bit to an
equivalent analogue resolution.

Today's top grade DAC can provide an analogue resolution equivalent to
real 20 Bit (120 dB) and this is really enough. So do the DX51-mkIII and DX71-mkII.
Simpler 24-Bit DAC (most 24-Bit models on the market) use
24-Bit data structure but provide only 16...18 Bit of real resolution.
Therefore 24 Bit DAC means only to have more data headroom in order to
slightly improve the analogue resolution. Only for top grade DA-converters
this will make a noticeable difference. All other DA-converters will not take
a noticeable advantage of the increased digital resolution.

96 kHz of sampling doesn't mean that you automatically use the possible
analogue bandwidth of 44 kHz. Usually, real 20 kHz bandwith is sufficient if not
influenced by other effects. The main advantage of 96 kHz is that we can easily
design digital filters which don't influence the music bandwidth up to 20 kHz.
This is impossible with today's CD standard. Using 44 kHz sampling we can
only provide a low digital filter influence using the "ringing free" digital
filter. DX51-mkIII / DX71-mkII work also at 96 kHz and use in addition a high
sampling "ringing free" filter. Therefore we are sure to offer today's
best solution.

The biggest audible benefit comes from a new generation of CHAMP-modules
(CC68) providing a feedback free, single ended, class A signal processing.
You will experience that DX51-mkIII is quite superior to the first DX51
generation.
